Okay. Either the rabbits that we got were sexed wrong, or they're both having a little gender identity crisis. The one we were told was the female has been climbing on top of the "male," doing the rabbity hump from behind, but mostly facing backward and humping the other's head.
Yesterday, when working on the fence for the turkey pen, we let both of them out in the grass. And, being teenage rabbits and horny as both, they went at it again. They seem to have finally figured it out, though--twice.
For the record, when a male rabbit (buck) reaches orgasm, he makes a little grunt (kind of like a cat sneezing), freezes completely still for a second or two, and then topples over onto his side--still half-way curled in a little ball. It is one of the most hysterical things I've ever seen.
Not sure if they're really too young to breed or not, but I guess we'll find out here in about a month.
