Spent two weeks in Alaska, preparing for/participating in/recovering from my little sister's wedding to an absolutely awesome guy whom I completely adore. Their wedding was beyond stunning and I doubt I will ever attend one its equal. I even got to wear a lovely and thoroughly not-hideous bridesmaid outfit.
Mr Smith and I spent a couple of days up in the Denali area, including renting a little cabin for a couple of nights that was clean, well-furnished, and had a full kitchen with a grill. We took a bus out into the park - as it was the next-to-last bus available, there were only about 10 other people (as opposed to the packed-to-the-gills ones we saw on their way back). I lived in Alaska for 22 years and never set foot inside the park, so this was a pretty big accomplishment. In addition, we saw "the big four": moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and grizzly bear. To top it all off, we saw Denali. The whole thing. Which, believe me, is very rare. The bus guides said it was the best day they'd had all summer--which, in Anchorage at least, had been unseasonably rainy. Went berry picking the next day, which was also beautiful.
Got to spend time with family and good friends on the trip--including an accidental need-to-take-another-flight-home incident. Made it back with close to 140# of frozen seafood, most of it still completely frozen. Didn't crash my car on the drive home, even though it was difficult to focus my eyes.
Spent the last week going back and forth with Mr Smith's family about an upcoming wedding of one of his cousins, but now all is resolved, thank god.
Satellite is up and running again. Garden is going well, except for the parts that the deer munched on. Work is busy.
Life ain't too bad.
