It has been a long time coming, really. This baby's been pushing for a while.

On October 7th, 1999, we opened our doors and filled our hosting provider's hard drives with a whole shitload of people who were thinking differently yet in like minds. They ran the gamut from 13 years old to their mid 50's, male and female, Mac users and Windows users, people with money and people barely able to put a roof over their heads. In a lot of ways, we were all children, in many ways, collectively wise beyond our years.

Eight years have passed since that day, and we've watched members come and go. Some felt they had outgrown the site, some frustrated with the lack of change, some just sick of the page bug. We've watched as members have passed on, others married, some divorced in the same amount of time. We've seen babies born, and we've seen dreams die. In some ways, these were our teenage years, struggling to find our Clearasil™ and a box of condoms.

I wouldn't say we're an adult yet. I've gone from an 18 year old pissant to a 26 year old douchebag, and yet I still can't think of myself as an adult. Sure, I'm married now. My skills have grown a little, my maturity has gone up in some ways, regressed in others. I suppose that is what growing up is like. This, too, has happened to www.whatthefuck.com. You will notice a lot of familiar pieces to this puzzle; we've kept the purple, the same features that have been active for a few years now are the ones to make the initial cut. There is a bit more spit and polish in some areas, but some are still a little rushed and will need a little work over the next couple of months. You'll note the old joke is still around, we still don't have e-mail, but that's coming in the next revision. You might even miss how broken things were. We just want to make it pretty and usable. We're not trying to compete with Google here.

We're fully expecting to find some issues as this is moved out to the public. We know that Internet Explorer 5.5 and lower don't work worth anything. We know that text browsing isn't as easy as it once was. We know that board and profile searching need more options, and the ability to display more.

We're working on it.
